WWPC Community Potluck

Forty people enjoyed a potluck meal and a half hour of the documentary film "Global Warming: the Signs and the Science," produced by PBS, and available through the Madison Public Library, or online viewing at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8644203554450424324. The attendees joined the West Waubesa Warblers in singing “Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Burn Carbons” to emphasize the need for reducing C02 emissions.

The update from the WWPC included signing up for our Rapid Response Team and Tuesday Night Coffee ‘n Council/Commission group.

The following groups gave brief presentations about their community projects:

Badfish Creek Project – For more information, contact Colleen Lourigan at colleen_lourigan@verizon.net. The group meets monthly. Thursday, May 24 there is an open meeting at the Village of Oregon EMS training room at 117 Spring Street, from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Ken Bradbury from the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey, presents information about Badfish Creek from a groundwater standpoint and talks about recharge and discharge areas, threats, concerns and what a citizen group can do to help protect groundwater and surface water resources that depend on it.

Green Charter School Project -- Julie Spalding is working on a website and organizing an informational meeting about green charter schools on the Monday, May 21st from 7 – 8 p.m. at the Fitchburg Community Center. Contact Julie at mike.julie.spalding@earthlink.net.

Swan Creek Community Rain Garden -- Work party takes place on Saturday, May 26 from 10:00 – Noon (for final site/soil prep) and again on Saturday, June 2nd from 10:00 – Noon (for planting) at Swan Creek Park. Directions: turn south on Crinkle Root from Cheryl Parkway. Both work parties conclude with a picnic at Noon! For more information, contact Nancy Hylbert at nhylbert@yogaforhealth.net.

Nine Springs Prairie Project meets once a month, on the Third Thursday of the month May - December, beginning with a work party on May 17 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. For more information, contact Nancy Hylbert at nhylbert@yogaforhealth.net.

Two Kids’ Clubs are starting up in June 2007. Kids' Nature Club (parents are welcome too!) will meet Saturday mornings from 9:00 - 10:30 am. at Swan Creek Park beginning June 16th. Prairie Players will be performing several plays at the Fitchburg Amphitheater. We welcome all elementary school age children, grades k-8.
